Clare Gallagher | Western States 100 win | Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Clare Gallagher now holds the 2nd fastest time at the legendary 100 mile race. Her Western States 100 win in Auburn started in Squaw Valley snow. She shares with us the afterglow and her inspiration: an awesome trip to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, where she tries to raise awareness of the fragility of the region.

Clare Gallagher now holds the 2nd fastest time at Western States 100. Her win at Auburn started in Squaw Valley snow and scorched through the Canyons before overtaking Courtney Dawaulter, who led from the get-go. Her inspiration was a trip to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. She learned from the Gwich’in people, the hunters of caribou while adventuring with other Patagonia Ambassadors to bring awareness to the fragility of the region in wake of proposed oil drilling.

Always a fresh voice. Albeit a fierce racer, Clare seems to be fueled by her passion for environmental awareness. A caretaker of the beauty that she experiences on the trails, you can find her defending National Monuments close to home in Colorado and Utah, and recently her eyes are on Alaska and Chile.

We talked to her about her adventures, the issues that are burning inside and the hard fought win at Western States 100.
